Before I attended an Ulpan this was my first introduction to learning Hebrew. I was able to read, write and say simple words in Hebrew just after the first chapter.
Some of the chapters are not so clear if you are studying independantly but overall I would highly recommend it for anyone that is interested in learning Modern Hebrew.
I am now beginning the Bet version.
